Previous Purchases

Formula 1 Project Equipment - This purchase in summer 2023 has allowed the F1 programme to start this year with Year 9.The students design their cars on CAD, 3D print them then add a compressed gas canister to power them.

Six Radio Mics and New Mixing Desk - The new audio equipment will be of benefit to whole school community events as well as extracurricular concerts and productions. The purchase has also made sound production design a possibility for students to specialise in on GCSE and A level drama syllabi.

Mixing Desk

Two Sewing Machines - The new machines help Year 7 students build up their confidence using sewing machines, while older year groups enjoy using the sewing machines in more creative ways in their Textiles classes.

Sewing Machine

New Minibus - The school needed a new minibus to better cope with the increasing transport requirements.  In June, the long-awaited minibus was purchased – second hand but in fantastic condition inside and out, and there’s even air-conditioning vents for all the passengers!  Go to the Friends of SJL Facebook or Twitter to see our video.

New Tenor Saxophone - The Music Faculty had been in need of a new Tenor Saxophone for quite some time.  Being able to support students expand their musical repertoire (for example branching out from an Alto Sax) and helps to enhance the sound of the various music ensembles.  The music parents support group are instrumental in raising funds and FOSJL were able to provide a substantial donation to make this purchase possible.  Go to the Friends of SJL Facebook or Twitter to see a short video.

The Oasis

This was a huge project which transformed a large area of barren land in the middle of the school into a beautiful place for students and staff to enjoy.  This was achieved by covering the area with artificial turf, building decking and seating around three beautiful silver birch trees, planting up the flower beds with shrubs and building a large raised bed in the centre of the site.  In addition, a student has built some seating in collaboration with Jarvis Contracting and students have painted murals and made sculptures.

The Outdoor Gym

This was the first Outdoor Gym to be installed in a Hertfordshire school, and only the third to be installed in the county.

We’re delighted to have been able to fund the gym. The students love it and it should make an appreciable difference to general health and fitness levels.
