Co-Curricular Activities
Students are fortunate that they have ample opportunities at lunchtime or after school to extend their learning and learn new skills.
At SJL we are proud to offer a wide range of co-curricular activities that cater for all interests and levels of ability.
- The Music faculty offers the Concert Band, Up and Coming Band, a Jazz Band and Junior Jazz Band, a Ukulele Group, and for those who enjoy singing, Senior and Junior Choirs, and a Chamber Choir
- The Art, Drama and Media faculties provide Art Club, Drama Club, Media Production Workshops, Lawes Lowdown, Film Club and whole school productions.
- Other clubs include Eco Garden, Oxfam, History Club, Geography Club, Diversity Forum, The Wellbeing Room, Dissection Club and Astronomy Club in Science, Climate Action Group, Journalism Club, Polygot Club, Stonewall Group, Latin and daily Chess & Go club.
- The PE faculty offers a full range of sporting clubs in all the major games, including football, rugby, hockey, badminton, tennis, athletics, cross-country and a range of indoor activities. There is also a Gym Club and Dance clubs, which culminate in a Gym and Dance Display. School fixtures including County and District Cup competition are daily features of the PE faculty.
If this is not enough, students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of trips from theatres and places of historical interest to residential trips throughout Europe and the world. There are also annual Music, Media and Languages trips to such countries as France , Poland , Austria , Italy , Germany and the USA .
Geographers have the opportunity to visit places such as Flatford Mills and Iceland and as part of our global education student representatives have visited Downing Street, Brussels, Germany and our partner school in Zambia . There is also an annual ski trip to Switzerland.
