Careers Day
On Thursday 20 March we were delighted to welcome Councillor Pip Liver, the Town Mayor of Harpenden, to our annual Careers Day. This event is designed to educate our Year 12 students on the wide range of opportunities available to them after Sixth Form, including School Leaver Apprenticeship Programmes and Graduate Schemes.
As the largest event of its kind in the local area, Careers Day welcomed over 900 students from Sir John Lawes School, schools within the Scholars’ Education Trust (including Longdean, Hemel Hempstead, The Priory, Samuel Ryder, Robert Barclay and Highfield), as well as our partner schools—St George’s, Roundwood Park, and Katherine Warrington.
The day featured over 90 businesses, charities, universities and alumni, with employer talks in the morning and a bustling Careers Fair in the afternoon, where the Sports Hall was filled to capacity. Students had the opportunity to explore post Sixth Form career pathways, gain industry insights, and even secure valuable work experience and professional connections.
Now in its ninth year, Careers Day continued to exceed expectations, attracting a high-calibre and diverse range of local, national, and international companies.
'It has been a pleasure to host the Careers Day again. Exam results are obviously key for students but we must combine these with giving them the right exposure to the world of careers. This event allows the students to have a bespoke experience and engage directly with the employers.'
Thanks to the many organisations who supported the Careers Day:

Our students had spent considerable time researching the companies attending and this was really appreciated by the employers, many of whom commended our students for their knowledge, the quality of questions they asked and the professional way in which they conducted themselves. In fact, once again many have secured much sought after relevant work experience and contacts to support their future aspirations.
'The Careers Day at SJL was a great opportunity to network with professionals from a wide range of industries. The morning talks provided valuable insight into the many different roles while the Careers Fair allowed us to gain more tailored advice from those who generously gave up their time to contribute to such a useful and insightful event.'
